Maemo SDK Virtual Image

This project provides virtual images properly configured for Maemo applications development. It can also be used by other environments which need a programming environment for Maemo development.

Maemo SDK Virtual Images includes Ubuntu, Scratchbox, Maemo rootstraps, ESbox and more programming tools.

Installation 7zip

You may ask us why you should use 7zip to unzip your Maemo SDK Virtual Images. 7zip contains some advantages that we took into account:

• 7-Zip is open source software. Most of the source code is under the GNU LGPL license. The unRAR code is under a mixed license: GNU LGPL + unRAR restrictions. Check 7-Zip license for more information.
• For ZIP and GZIP formats, 7-Zip provides a compression ratio that is 2-10 % better than the ratio provided by PKZip and WinZip
• Since zipped Maemo SDK Virtual Images are too large (the virtual image itself has more than 5GB), some compression tools cannot unzip it properly. 7zip implements a 64-bits-based uncompressing algorithm that unzip Maemo SDK Virtual Images properly

How to install:

1. Download 7zip for your system from 7zip official site. 7zip is available for Windows (XP/Vista/7) and for Unix/Linux and Mac OS as well.
• You can use a graphical interface or a port of the command line version to Linux/Unix.
2. Install 7zip according to 7zip instructions.

How to uncompress the Maemo SDK Virtual Images:

With graphical interface tool

1. Right-click over the Maemo SDK Virtual Image zipped file.
   
   
   ATTENTION: If your zipped virtual image consists of MORE THAN ONE ZIPPED FILE (for example, it has files *.001.zip and *.002.zip), you have to right-click over the file *.001.zip ONLY.
2. Select 7-zip > Extract files ... or 7-zip > Extract here ...

With command line tool

1. Execute the following command:
$ 7z -x your_virtual_image.zip destination
2. However, if your zipped virtual image consists of MORE THAN ONE ZIPPED FILE (for example, it has files *.001.zip and *.002.zip), you have to pass only the first file as parameter. For example.
$ 7z -x your_virtual_image.001.zip destination
