Installation - VirtualBox
This section describes how to install VirtualBox on your host environment in order to launch Maemo SDK virtual images. The instructions were properly tested on Linux, Windows and Mac platforms.
VirtualBox is a family of virtualization products for enterprise as well as home use. It is freely available as Open Source Software under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL).

Installing VirtualBox on Linux

Download


On your browser, access VirtualBox website and click on VirtualBox X.X for Linux hosts.



For Linux platform, the installer is available under different formats (.deb, .rpm and .run). In this case, since we are installing VirtualBox on Ubuntu distribution, we use .deb format. Select the Ubuntu distribution of your host computer and download the installer on your machine
NOTE: You can also install it using apt-get utility tools. For more information, visit VirtualBox Linux download page.



Installation

1. Double-click on VirtualBox .deb installer. The Package Installer utility is opened.


 
2. Click on Install Package.





3. On Ubuntu, VirtualBox  launcher is available on System Tools submenu.


4. Then, start VirtualBox in order to run your Maemo SDK virtual machine.


You can also run the virtual image on VirtualBox tools (VBox) with command-line interface.

Usage

All VirtualBox virtual machines must be registered with VirtualBox. Therefore, before using your Maemo SDK virtual image, you need to create a new virtual machine on VirtualBox. You can check this instructions.

1. Create a new virtual machine.


2. Select the machine and click on Start.




Installing VirtualBox on Windows

Download

On your browser, access VirtualBox website and click on VirtualBox X.X for Windows hosts.



For Windows platform, the installer is available as .exe file. Download the installer on your machine.



Installation

1. Double-click on VirtualBox .exe installer. Click Next.


 
2. Follow the instructions of VirtualBox Windows installer.


3. Then, start VirtualBox in order to run your Maemo SDK virtual machine.


You can also run the virtual image on VirtualBox tools (VBox) with command-line interface.

Download

For Mac platform, the installer is available as .dmg file. Download the installer on your machine.

Installation

1. Click on VirtualBox.mpkg


2. Follow the instructions of VirtualBox Mac installer.


3. Then, start VirtualBox in order to run your Maemo SDK virtual machine.


You can also run the virtual image on VirtualBox tools (VBox) with command-line interface.

Usage
